Stone for every surface - WK Quantum Quartz
As an interior stylist one of the biggest questions I get asked when it comes to selecting finishes for a renovation or new build is “Where do I start”... I always start with selecting an overall colour palette for the room. Think about the rooms or homes you have seen on line or in a magazine that you’ve loved, and look for the common design thread. Ask yourself what is making this image stand out, what do I love the most in the image and think about what all these images have in common. It might be a colour theme, it might be a certain finish or product that you keep coming back to. Work out what it is you love and then think about ways you can take inspiration from this to tie back into your own home.
When I’m designing kitchens and bathrooms in particular I always look for high quality finishes that stand out and create an immediate impact whilst still having a beautiful timeless quality. The natural stone and porcelain products from WK Quantum Quartz are always my first choice in creating rooms with serious wow factor. WK Quantum Quartz have an amazing showroom located in Cheltenham, Melbourne where you can go in and see and touch all their amazing stones in person, and view the colours in their larger sheets and slabs. Their staff are so knowledgeable and have a great design eye, so they can help guide you to your dream look.
When I was specifying the finishes for my own kitchen I wanted to use a mix of materials in a really interesting way. I fell in love with the ‘Super White’ natural stone when I saw it in person in the WK warehouse so I knew this would end up being a really impactful feature. I decided to clad my island bench in this stone and I wanted this stone to be the star of the show so I created a heavy block style island bench. To compliment this stone I was eager to use their durable 12mm porcelain – Quantum Six+ for my rear bench, splashback and butlers pantry. The minimal profile gave my kitchen a sleek architectural edge. This porcelain is so durable it’s nearly indestructible, a huge bonus in a busy kitchen!
To carry this porcelain look into my powder room I created a ledge which I clad in the 12mm Statuario Six+ which gave this bathroom a real sense of luxury with it’s marble tones. But WK Quantum Quartz doesn’t just do natural stone and porcelain, they stock a huge range of the most beautiful reconstituted stone with some brilliant new colours mirroring concrete with the most beautiful matt finishes. Reconstituted stone is great for benchtops and joinery details – I have used it around my fireplace to create a concrete looking hob as well as using it in my ensuite and guest bathroom. It’s a brilliant product and the range of colours is amazing.
